Hi everyone! Life has been a whirlwind lately (I’m opening a school! I can’t wait to share more details in this space! Anyway…). I was lucky enough to attend the AMI refresher in Dallas two weeks ago (which feels like six months ago!). Last week, I shared what I learned about creating the conditions for freedom in a primary environment. Today, I’m going to share my notes on another wonderful session I attended titled Head to Toe: Supporting the Physical and Social Changes of the Child Transitioning from Casa to Elementary presented by Anna Discenzo and Myesha Green, PhD, M.Ed.
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from the session:
“Montessori in the primary is an aid to life, not an aid to elementary.”
“Conversations around transitions should be centered on theories of universal human tendencies and planes of development.”
“We are preparing the environment for the child in transition, we are not preparing the child for the transition to a new environment.”
